What DECA is, formally

DECA Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Career and Technical Student Organization with more than 297,000 members in nearly all 50 United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Germany. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

DECA is co-curricular rather than extracurricular: its competitive events are built on the National Curriculum Standards for marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism, and they integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition. The program is designed to develop members who are academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible and experienced leaders.

Community service is part of that by design. Each year our chapter selects a mission or a community service organization to support, and members make that decision together. Lafayette DECA is a chapter of Kentucky DECA, the chartered association for the commonwealth.
